The Sustainability Factor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Sustainability Factor concept has been introduced at <\/strong>Jumbo Shopping Centre<\/strong>. It will help <\/strong>Jumbo<\/strong> in becoming the most sustainable shopping centre in Finland by 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sustainability factor encompasses actions from the shopping centre itself, the stores operating there, and the customers, which, when combined, produce a multiplier effect greater than their individual contributions. These actions promote ecological and social sustainability. Even small actions can have a significant impact when a large number of people participate. The shopping centre has 170 shops, nearly 2,000 employees and almost 12 million visitors annually, providing endless opportunities for sustainable actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sustainability factor reflects the combined efforts of stores, customers, local residents, and Jumbo\u2019s own initiatives. These may be small, everyday choices, but together they create the largest sustainability factor in Finland. Every action matters, and each one contributes to increasing the sustainability factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the sustainability factor is not a mathematically valid formula, its purpose is to express the limitless possibilities of collective action. The more people involved, and the more actions taken, the higher the factor grows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Jumbo\u2019s first sustainability actions is a community artwork commissioned from local artist Riika Anundi<\/strong> from Vantaa. The artwork is made from the old floor tiles that were replaced during Jumbo\u2019s renovation, showcasing ecological sustainability. The artwork was created in community workshops where the old tiles were repurposed, highlighting social sustainability.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We prepared a Sustainability Programme<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We have drawn up a Sustainability Programme for the Jumbo shopping centre for 2022-2030. It focuses especially on environmental and social sustainability. The shopping centre’s Sustainability Manager is responsible for implementing the Sustainability Programme.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We continuously improve energy efficiency<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jumbo’s heat pump systems were fully operational in 2022. The shopping centre benefits from the heat recovery system that collects waste heat generated from grocery stores, the building’s cooling networks and exhaust air, and uses it further for space heating. On the Leisure quarter side of the centre, a corresponding system recovers heat from the Spa’s wastewater and other energy flows and makes use of this energy within the shopping centre. The shopping centre’s heating and cooling emissions have considerably decreased as a result. Furthermore, we optimise ventilation according to the conditions and the number of visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We believe that even small actions have a big effect. That’s why sustainability can be seen everywhere in our shopping centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
